(NewsNation) — A luxury resort owned by billionaire Bill Gates on the Caribbean island of Nevis is the subject of a $100 million lawsuit over its condition.
The Four Seasons Resorts Nevis homeowners’ association, which represents 66 owners across the 350-acre property, filed a lawsuit last week against Nevis Peak Holdings, Forbes reported. The company is owned by Gates’ private investment firm, Cascade, which also owns more than 71 percent of Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts.
Owners allege that despite the resort’s high costs, including a $100,000 entry fee and an annual fee over $13,000, the property is dirty and run-down, with crippling infrastructure, according to the outlet. Specifically, the complaint alleges that Nevis Holdings hasn’t adequately maintained the resort, including failing to reconstruct the golf clubhouse and fitness center after a 2022 fire.
The association also alleges that they’ve spent more than $20 million on management and club fees since 2013 for repairs that have never been made, per Forbes. Owners also said they’ve spent an additional $1.4 million on electrical and infrastructure repairs over four years.
The association is now reportedly asking Nevis Peak to address the concerns or to pay more than $100 million for what it considers lost value. The Four Seasons company, which manages the resort, is notably not a defendant in the lawsuit.
Cascade denied the claims in a statement to Forbes, saying it “intends to vigorously defend itself against the claims, which it believes are entirely without merit.”
