(LifeSiteNews) — On Sunday, October 4, thousands of Canadians will gather in over 375 locations across the country to stand up for life in the womb while participating in the 36th annual Life Chain event.
Hosted by the Campaign Life Coalition (CLC), the group says Life Chain will offer an hour of prayer as well as peaceful public witness for the “preborn whose lives have been snuffed out by abortion.”
“The Canadian pro-life movement silently but boldly confronts our pro-death culture with the pro-life message through Life Chain,” said Josie Luetke, a CLC and Life Chain Canada committee member, in comments to LifeSiteNews.
Luetke said that the mainstream media may try to “studiously ignore this message,” but “we’ve bypassed them, bringing the truth directly to our neighbours passing by.”
Life Chain started in 1991 when CLC brought the idea north to Canada from the United States.
This year, participants will gather at intersections throughout Canada while holding “Abortion Kills Children” signs along with “Abortion Hurts Women” and “Jesus Forgives and Heals.”
CLC noted that there are no speeches or graphic images displayed at Life Chain events.
According to CLC, since abortion became legal in Canada in 1969, over five million preborn children have “been erased” by the deadly practice.
“Our reach is unparalleled. On this one day, a considerable segment of our population will be forced to think about abortion and what it actually does,” Luetke said.
“When our country is committed to shrouding this evil in euphemisms and pretending this issue is settled, our visible opposition is critical,” she said. “It is the duty of anyone who would call themselves ‘pro-life’ to bear witness to those convictions.”
The sad reality is that abortion has become more common in Canada. There were 368,928 babies born in Canada from 2024 to 2025, a number that would be much greater if not for abortion. In 2022, 97,211 Canadian babies were killed by abortion.
Similarly, reports from 2018 indicated that 766 babies were born alive and presumably left to die after late-term abortions in Canada between 2013 and 2018.
Last year, an estimated 20,000 pro-lifers took to the streets to witness in favor of life.
