Police force Students for Life to leave college campus, ignore pro-abortion vandalism

ALBION, Michigan (LifeSiteNews) — Pro-abortion agitators and even police descended on a pro-life display at Albion College on April 14, with one professor even allegedly canceling class so students could pressure the pro-lifers to leave.

Students for Life of America says it sent staffers to the campus to set up a Cemetery of the Innocents display, a field of small red flags symbolizing the 1,102 preborn babies Planned Parenthood kills daily. The display was on a roadside patch of public grass rather than the school grounds.

Protesters descended on the group, eventually amassing an estimated 25–30 people, with some allegedly accompanied by an unidentified professor who SFL says canceled class so his students could protest the display.

They brandished signs with messages such as “abortion is a right” and a drawing of a coat hanger (symbolizing do-it-yourself abortions) and engaged the SFL representatives in argument, with some crossing the line into theft and vandalism.

“One young man attempted to steal a handful of our flags while the university’s head of security stood by without stopping him,” SFL says. “It took Students for Life staff threatening to call the police for the man to drop the flags. Another student spit on our table and topic cards.”

Eventually, campus security told the pro-lifers to leave and, when they initially refused, called local police. “Without reprimanding or even cautioning the protesters, the officers informed our staff we had to leave,” SFL says.

The student newspaper Albion Pleiad has more details, with Assistant Vice President for Student Development Kelly Finn claiming, “people certainly have the right to be on campus, but we prefer that folks work with us to set that up.” Interim Director of Campus Safety Joey Koehn says that the Campus Safety department consulted with police to “find out the legalities of the piece of property.” Police later told SFL they needed a permit from the city to set up on the ground that they had chosen.

American institutions of higher education have long been recognized as heavily dominated by left-wing bias and historical revisionism, conditioning students to reject religion, traditional morality, and free markets and to view America as a uniquely malignant force in the world and a society systemically rigged against the poor and minority groups.

This bias has also made them breeding grounds of intolerance for dissenting views, the extent of which has been grimly highlighted over the past year by the alarming number of professors who have publicly mocked or celebrated the murder of Turning Point USA leader Charlie Kirk.

In response, the Trump administration has issued executive orders to deny federal funds to educational entities that indoctrinate students through Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion (DEI) programs, among other executive actions to combat so-called “woke ideology” in education.
