Most Americans say the Trump administration has not done enough to “Make America Healthy Again” (MAHA), according to a Monday poll.
In the Politico poll, 52 percent of respondents said the administration “has not done enough to Make America Healthy Again,” while 26 percent said the opposite. Twenty-two percent of respondents said they were unsure if the administration has done enough in alignment with MAHA.
Throughout Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s time in office, decades of public health norms have been flipped on their head. The secretary has boasted about his changes as key victories for his MAHA agenda while his actions have been branded as “chaos” by critics.
Kennedy has a history of promoting unfounded medical claims, most notably surrounding vaccines.
With Kennedy at the helm of HHS, the number of recommended childhood vaccines dropped, long-recommended vaccines were delayed and guidance on what people can get what shots was restricted.
The mainstream medical community has also often split from the federal government during Kennedy’s tenure, with major medical organizations distancing themselves from newer guidance and recommendations.
In the Politico poll, 36 percent of respondents said Democrats “follow the science,” while 24 percent said the same of Republicans. Sixteen percent said the parties follow the science “both equally,” 11 percent said “neither party” follows the science and 12 percent were unsure on which side of the aisle follows the science.
The Politico poll was conducted March 13-18, featuring 3,851 people and a margin of sampling error of 1.6 percentage points.
