Join the worldwide novena to end the culture of death

(LifeSiteNews) — Catholic and pro-life activists are launching a worldwide prayer novena to fight the culture of death and of paganism from September 20 to 28.

The duo behind Ireland’s Catholic YouTube channel “Guardians of the Faith,” Barry and Anthony, were inspired to organize the novena after Belfast City Hall resolved to light up in green to celebrate International “Safe” Abortion Day despite a prayer protest against the plans.

In the face of this “demonic and satanic” celebration of abortion, Barry and Anthony, organizers of the first worldwide Eucharistic processions, are teaming up with Precious Life and many other groups to lead a novena (nine days of prayer) to the Archangels Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael, primarily for the protection of the unborn.

Barry added that the culture of death also includes suicide, murder, and euthanasia. The novena prayers aim at combating all of these evils, which “stem from the culture of paganism,” Barry noted.

Barry told LifeSiteNews that the duo first decided to launch a national novena to fight the culture of death when they saw that City Hall wouldn’t budge even amid overwhelming Irish opposition to the celebration of abortion. A petition against the city hall plans has gathered over 20,000 signatures and remains ignored.

The novena prayer campaign quickly picked up steam, drawing international support. Now, six continents plan to participate, and some of the most prominent Catholic media outlets and prayer groups, including EWTN, The Fatima Center, and the Marian Movement of Priests, are joining in and promoting the global synchronized prayer effort.

The novena will run until September 28, the day that Belfast City Hall is to light up in honor of abortion. Barry said the novena was inspired by the fact that September 28 is the eve of the Feast of the Archangels, which is also known as Michaelmas, in honor of St. Michael the Archangel.

Barry explained the significance of prayer to the three Archangels in the battle against abortion.

“St. Michael is the leader of the angelic armies in the fight against the culture of death. The Archangel Gabriel was the angel of the Annunciation of the Immaculate Conception, and we believe that life begins at conception. And the Archangel Raphael is the angel of healing,” said Barry, noting that the novena prays in part for “healing for our land and for our politicians.”

“This is a call to Christendom to combat the forces of evil,” he added.

He acknowledged that the power of prayer goes well above and beyond the power of action alone.

“We have seen through the passage of time how prayer has negated the demonic, how it has instigated and helped obtain victories, like the Battle of Lepanto in 1571 and the Battle of Tours in 732,” Barry said. “We’re calling on people to fast and to pray.”

Barry and Anthony are also asking novena participants to call on the holy souls in Purgatory, through the St. Gertrude prayer, to “join us in this fight.” They encourage everyone to add this to their novena:

Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the masses said throughout the world today, for all the holy souls in purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal church, those in my own home and within my family. Amen.

Barry stressed that Our Lady of Fatima warned us the final battle between Christ and Satan will be over marriage and the family, as Fatima visionary Lucia recounted. Abortion is the most direct material attack —a “demonic” attack — on the family, which represents the Holy Family, Barry said.

Those who would like to join in the novena can email [email protected] to register as an individual, or as a family, prayer group or even a parish.

Those who will be in Ireland on September 28 are welcome to join a rosary rally outside Belfast City Hall that day at 5 p.m. that will act as a “public declaration and an act of reparation to God the Father so that He has mercy on our land,” Barry shared. “Many other leading Catholic organizations and YouTube channels will be joining in prayer to voice their disdain for what Belfast City Hall has decided to do. What they’re doing is not in our name.”

Please join in this worldwide synchronized novena.

“If my people who are called in my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways then I will hear from heaven and I will forgive their sin and I will heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14)

“I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Therefore choose life, that you and your offspring may live.” (Deuteronomy 30:19)

“Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we are not contending against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world rulers of this present darkness, against the spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.” (Ephesians 6:11-12)
