Harris: Trump’s Russian fuel plan 'reeks of weakness'

Former Vice President Kamala Harris on Sunday criticized President Trump’s diesel deal with Russia, saying it “reeks of weakness.”

“Donald Trump and his war in Iran are to blame for our nation’s sky-high diesel and gas prices. His latest ploy—buying fuel from his friend Vladimir Putin—reeks of weakness and will help pay for Russia’s war but will do nothing to make life more affordable for American families,” Harris said in a post on the social platform X.

“The American people deserve a leader who cares about them, and the Ukrainian people deserve allies who will stand by their side in the fight for a free, democratic, and independent nation,” the former vice president added.

Last week, Trump announced that Russia will provide the U.S. and global market with diesel. The move came only weeks before the midterm elections, in which increasing energy prices are a key issue.

The president said Moscow would “immediately” give 300,000 tons of diesel to the U.S. and global marketplace.

“I have just concluded a highly successful discussion with President Vladimir Putin, of Russia, wherein it was agreed that Russia will immediately supply over 300,000 Tons of Diesel Fuel to the American and Global Marketplace, another 500,000 Tons during the month of November, and 1,000,000 Tons immediately thereafter,” Trump wrote Friday on Truth Social.

Energy costs have increased amid the U.S. war against Iran, in which the Strait of Hormuz, a key waterway for the oil industry, has been closed.

According to AAA, the average cost of a gallon of regular gas in the U.S. was about $4.36 on Monday morning, up from about $3.08 last year at the same time. For diesel, the average cost of a gallon in the U.S. on Monday morning was about $6.27, up from about $3.67 last year.
