Costco recalls beignets sold in 23 states due to undeclared allergen

(WJW) – Costco is recalling packages of mini beignets after it was discovered the products were mislabeled and may lead to allergic reactions.

A recall alert from Costco indicates that some packages of its caramel-filled mini beignets may have been “inadvertently packaged” with beignets containing a chocolate hazelnut filling, meaning the labels do not list tree nuts as an allergen.

“People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to Hazelnut/Filberts run the risk of severe, life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume the products,” the recall notice said.

Tree nut allergies are common in both children and adults, according to Food Allergy Research and Education. Walnuts, almonds, hazelnuts, pecans, cashews and pistachios account for the majority of tree nut allergies, the nonprofit organization says.

The affected products (item number #1181272) were distributed between Jan. 16 and Jan. 30, 2026, at Costco locations in 23 states: Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Louisiana, Michigan, Missouri, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and Washington.

Costco encouraged customers who bought the affected products to return them for a full refund, or contact Costco’s customer service with any questions.

“We are sorry for any inconvenience this recall may have caused,” Costco wrote.
