More than 180 new Aldi stores were expected to open this year, and several of those are gearing up to welcome shoppers just in time for the holidays.
The international discount supermarket chain revealed in January that it planned to open dozens of new locations throughout the U.S. with the goal of “making it even easier for customers to shop our aisles first,” CEO Atty McGrath said in a press release.
It wasn’t clear at the time, however, where exactly Aldi would expand to. The grocer did share that the supermarkets would open in 31 states, with 80 alone planned for the Southeast.
Among the locations that opened this year was Maine’s first-ever Aldi, located in Portland.
Multiple stores, listed below, celebrated grand openings this week, according to Aldi’s website.
Daphne, Alabama – 30947 Mill Lane
Prescott Valley, Arizona – 3330 North Glassford Hill Road
Metairie, Louisiana – 215 Veterans Memorial Boulevard
Lansing, Michigan – 2110 Lake Lansing Road
Glen Allen, Virginia – 10310 Washington Highway
Even more are on track to open this month. Customers can get a sneak peek of new stores in Mesa, Arizona (6853 East Elliot Road), and Poughkeepsie, New York (3456 North Road), on Oct. 21, with grand opening events set for Oct. 22.
Later this month, Aldi will open new stores in North Little Rock, Arkansas (11201 Maumelle Boulevard), and Bristol, Connecticut (1235 Farmington Avenue). Sneak peeks are set for Oct. 28, with grand opening events the following day, according to Aldi. The new stores coming to Madison (729 West Base Street) and Zephyrhills (38901 County Road 54), Florida, do not have sneak peek events scheduled, webpages show.
As of October 2026, Aldi has more than 2,700 stores across the U.S. Florida has the most of any state at 346, followed by Illinois at 217 and Pennsylvania at 174.
Ten states do not have an Aldi store: Alaska, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.
For Colorado, however, the lack of Aldi locations is expected to end soon. Nexstar’s KDVR reported in January that Aldi had plans to bring 50 stores to Colorado over the next few years. In July, Aldi submitted concept plans for two locations near Denver, according to KDVR.
By the end of 2028, Aldi hopes to have a footprint of 3,200 stores.
