So it's no secret I hate Catcher in the Rye, and I decided to reread and give it the kind of analysis it deserves (but wasn't able to give because of my immaturity as a critic). It most certainly is the worst book ever, but that's only because it's supposed to be the worst book ever, because that's what Dadaism is, a rejection of the conventions of good art and deeper meaning.
"I don't want to bore you with all that David Copperfield crap." Guess what English teachers and literary scholars, that "David Copperfield crap" is the analysis of symbols, and themes, and deeper meaning. Catcher in the Rye is saying what you do is a waste of time.
This is basically my thesis for the full video; I'll go into more detail once I finish the book and write the script. I just had to get this out there, because I can't find anyone that has made this connection. Hopefully I reach you if you need it. You are not alone in thinking Catcher in the Rye is stupid.
